Treatment Options

Hemophilia management involves treating specific hemorrhages as well as preventing bleed recurrence, limiting complications and restoring tissue and/or organ function to a pre-bleed state.1

While there is currently no cure for hemophilia,2 several treatment options exist for these

CFCs can be administered by:

  • Prophylactic treatment (regular replacement therapy) which is given regularly to prevent anticipated bleeding1

  • On-demand treatment (episodic replacement therapy) which is given at the time of a bleed1
People with hemophilia are usually advised to seek medical help in the event of2:
  • Injury to the neck, mouth, tongue, face or eyes
  • Severe knock to the head and unusual headache
  • Heavy or persistent bleeding from any wound
  • Severe pain or swelling anywhere
  • Open wound that needs stitching
  • Bleeding into a joint or muscle, especially in the arm or leg
  • Any accident that might result in a bleed
